The restoration and refurbishment of the historic Clarence Park Pavilion at St Albans Cricket Club.
Conamar was commissioned to restore and refurbish the historic Clarence Park Pavilion at St Albans Cricket Club, a Grade II listed building that has stood for over 125 years. Secured in two phases, the first phase was carried out under the SCAPE Regional Construction Framework and delivered by Conamar for St Albans City and District Council.
The phased approach allowed Conamar to address both the external restoration and internal reconfiguration, ensuring that the pavilion meets modern accessibility standards and continues to serve the community for years to come.
During the first phase of the restoration and refurbishment project at Clarence Park Pavilion, the goal was to preserve the historic fabric of the building while upgrading its facilities to meet the club’s evolving needs.
The works included detailed repairs and redecoration of the pavilion’s original timber and metal elements, ensuring that these features were preserved in line with heritage conservation standards.
Then comprehensive cleaning of the building’s brickwork restored the pavilion’s striking façade, rejuvenating its appearance while maintaining its historical integrity.
Internal fire doors were upgraded to meet modern safety requirements without compromising the building’s character.
Essential repairs to the roof and upgrades to rainwater goods were undertaken to ensure the building’s long-term structural integrity and weather resilience.
The completion of the Clarence Park Pavilion restoration represents a significant achievement for St Albans Cricket Club and the wider community. The exterior restoration has rejuvenated the building.
The cricket club now benefits from facilities that accommodate all players, including women and girls, and meet modern accessibility standards. The works have ensured that the pavilion will continue to serve as a focal point for the club and the Clarence Park area, enhancing its value as both a heritage asset and a functional sporting facility.
