Nottinghamshire Scouts Adventure Centre

Framework: SCAPE Venture Framework

Client: Nottinghamshire Scouts

Expected opening date:: 2026

“As a long-standing Scout volunteer myself, I know how much this centre means to the young people and adults it serves. The new facility will not only strengthen Scouting in Nottinghamshire but will also provide accessible, high-quality outdoor experiences to a wider community.”

John Bradley,

Operations Director at Perfect Circle and Director at Pick Everard

We are proud to support Nottinghamshire Scouts in expanding and future-proofing their Adventure Activity Centre near Hoveringham, Nottinghamshire.

Plans are now underway to develop a permanent, purpose-built facility to replace the temporary structures that have been in place since the centre opened back in 2015. The new building will be almost three times the size of the existing facility. It will be fully inclusive, environmentally sustainable, and designed to meet the long-term needs of Scouts, schools, and community groups for generations to come.

The Nottinghamshire Scouts Adventure Centre offers a wide range of land and water activities, including sailing, canoeing, paddleboarding, climbing, and archery. Since its opening, the centre has flourished, providing over 40,000 hours of activities annually and training more than 110 volunteer instructors.

This project is being procured through the SCAPE Venture framework with support from Perfect Circle. They will provide multi-disciplinary consultancy services in collaboration with local partners, including Pick Everard, AECOM, and Gleeds. These services cover project management, ground investigation, design, planning, and sustainability expertise. A topographic survey of the site was conducted by Tower Surveys.

Requirement:

In 2015, Nottinghamshire Scouts secured a 30-year lease on a 150-acre lake and the surrounding land. Just two years later, the site opened its doors to young people, providing a wide range of water and land-based activities such as sailing, canoeing, paddleboarding, climbing, and archery. Since that launch, the centre has flourished, delivering over 40,000 hours of activities each year and training more than 110 volunteer instructors.

The new centre will include multi-purpose classrooms for training as well as indoor activities; accessible toilets and shower facilities; upgraded kitchen and volunteer spaces; and sustainable features like water recycling, PV energy generation, battery storage, an air source heat pump, and a sedum roof.

Importantly, this expansion will allow the centre to host even more activity sessions, provide year-round programming, and welcome external groups, including schools, Girlguiding, Air Cadets, emergency services, and wellbeing organisations.
