As well as providing valuable space to support our creative industries, we have been able to bring back to life a building which has a lot of history and character."

Regenerating the City’s Expanding Creative Quarter
The project at Dakeyne Street involved major restoration, refurbishment and remodelling works to convert historic factory units, which were in a very poor state of repair, into lettable commercial space.
The improvements to the building needed to help boost the local economy, profile the city’s creative industries and vibrant business community and provide a space where small-medium enterprises (SMEs) could flourish.
Delivered by Wates, ‘Space 2’ provides high quality performance space, including a dance studio and television production facilities. It is now being occupied by local dance company, Dance4 and media business, Confetti Media Group.
The refurbishment has created a cultural hub for Nottingham’s emerging creative and digital industry, giving local enterprises and SMEs from the creative arts sector flexible space in which they can work, perform, collaborate and grow.
The local community are also making use of the communal areas such as an indoor café, external courtyard and small lawn area for meetings and events.
The existing building needed to be redeveloped into multi-purpose space including workshops, offices and studio units.
Additional meeting rooms and networking spaces were also part of the specification, to facilitate collaboration between tenants.
The improvements to the building needed to help boost the local economy, profile the city’s creative industries and vibrant business community.
To secure funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), all tenants using the new facilities had to be from the creative arts sector.

Through restoration, the original building’s history and character were preserved, allowing the council to breathe new life into the site.
Dance 4 are using their new home to provide specialist support and space for the research, production and distribution of new choreographic work, which support local, national and international artists.
Confetti and their students are benefiting from two state of the art working television studios with studio lighting and tiered seating, a video editing suite and a screening room.
