Celebrating Our Commitment to the Real Living Wage
We are delighted to be accredited as a Living Wage Employer.
Our commitment will ensure everyone working at SCAPE receives the real Living Wage, which is based on the actual cost of living and is significantly higher than the government’s minimum wage.
The real Living Wage is the only rate calculated according to the costs of living. It provides a voluntary benchmark for employers like us, who want to ensure their staff earn a wage they can live on. Since 2011, the Living Wage movement has increased pay for more than 300,000 people and helped workers benefit from over £1.6bn extra in take-home earnings.
We are extremely proud to stand alongside the many public sector organisations that are accredited Living Wage Employers and are thoroughly committed to ensuring all our staff, and those who work on our behalf, are consistently paid a Living Wage. This supports our values as a responsible, ethical organisation and a leader of positive change.
Mark Robinson
chief executive, SCAPE
We are among a growing number of organisations across the UK, who are voluntarily committing to going further than the government’s minimum requirement, to make sure our staff earn enough to live on.
The real Living Wage is the only rate calculated based on what people need to make ends meet. This is different to the government’s national living wage, which is based on median earnings, rather than the cost of living. We believe this provides a more accurate representation of what people and their families need to get by.
As of this week, the UK Living Wage is currently £9.90 per hour, with a separate rate of £11.05 per hour for London to reflect the higher costs of transport, childcare and housing in the capital.
These figures are calculated annually by the Resolution Foundation and overseen by the Living Wage Commission, based on the best available evidence on living standards in London and the UK.
We hope our commitment will encourage our clients and partners to take positive steps in implementing fair pay and to realise the benefits the Real Living Wage can bring to their employees and their businesses.
