Recruited as apprentice multi-skilled maintenance operatives, 20 year-old Aaron from Norris Green and 19 year-old Dominic from Hunt's Cross have been with the company for two years and have both achieved NVQ Level 2. The aim next is for Level 3 in joinery and plastering respectively.

Aaron left school at 16 and initially worked for a construction firm, installing media cabling.

"I left after about a year as there were no prospects for earning more or gaining qualifications so it felt like a dead end job. I wanted to stay in the construction industry but I didn't know what trade I wanted to learn, so when I found out about the apprenticeship it seemed like the perfect way forward."

Dominic was at a similar crossroads. He had gained GCSEs at school but didn't think that university was right for him.

"I liked the idea of gaining life-long skills but I wasn't sure what I wanted to do so a multi-skilled maintenance operative role was absolutely ideal for me."

Both Aaron and Dominic are really keen to progress in their careers. They both have a chance to join the company's trainee site manager programme once they achieve their Level 3 qualifications and they are enthusiastic about the opportunities that the company offers.

"Willmott Dixon has looked after me from day one", said Aaron "they are a great company to work for. They have helped me find what I want to do and now I'm set on becoming a site manager and making my way in life. Knowing that I have prospects makes me feel far more secure about my future."

Dominic agrees. "I did well to get an apprenticeship with a great company like this and I don't want to work anywhere else. Hopefully I'm here for life. I'm earning and learning and I really enjoy it. I'd like to get on the trainee site manager programme then the sky's the limit!"
