Wilmott Dixon announce SCAPE Trainee of the year

Congratulations to Jack Hall, winner of SCAPE Trainee of the Year at Wilmott Dixon’s Management Trainee of the Year awards.

Traditionally held as a live event, this year the awards were hosted virtually, recognising valuable contributions from management trainees across the business.

After completing his A levels, Jack began his first role in construction after apprentice building manager on the Oldham Leisure Centre project.

The project was delivered in October 2015 through SCAPE Construction and gave Jack an excellent first step into the construction industry. It provided him with the opportunity to work on a complex project and develop his communication skills while learning more about his future role.

Following completion of Oldham Sports Centre, Jack completed his apprenticeship and was encouraged to apply for Wilmott Dixon’s management trainee programme.

Over the three-year programme, Jack’s placements included carrying out roles as a build manager and surveyor, as well as working with the bids team, where he was involved in another SCAPE project, the visitor’s centre and café at Delamere Forest, completed in Summer 2020 and now being enjoyed by visitors to the forest. The project gave him an understanding of sustainable design expectations, using solar panels, a ground source heat pump, a sustainable drainage design and rainwater harvesting.

Whilst completing the management trainee programme, Jack also achieved a first-class honours degree in BSC Construction Management.

Jack has now graduated from the management trainee programme and is working as an assistant building manager. His commitment and enthusiasm led him to be shortlisted at Wilmott Dixon’s management trainee of the year awards, where he was awarded the SCAPE trainee of the year prize.

Jack explains “It was an honour to find that I had been shortlisted for the SCAPE Trainee of the Year award, following my involvement across a range of SCAPE projects.

Through the National Major Works framework Willmott Dixon has delivered over 450 public sector projects with SCAPE, totalling over £5 billion in contract values. I fully appreciate how important the collaborative partnership between our two organisations is and the importance of achieving outstanding outcomes for our customers and the local community through the framework.”
