A modern, fit-for-purpose centre in Northampton, commissioned to provide recreational space for local organisations and to bring the community together.
Northampton Borough Council commissioned the build of a modern community centre with sports facilities through the legacy SCAPE Regional Construction framework and Jeakins Weir.
Their aim was to provide additional indoor and outdoor recreational space for local organisations and to bring the community together.
The new St Crispin’s Community Centre includes a large main hall, meeting rooms, office space and catering kitchen, all of which make multi-purpose space available for public use. In addition to this, a café, changing rooms and equipment storage formed part of the indoor specification.
To provide residents and local groups with access to new outdoor sporting areas, four football pitches and a baseball diamond also featured externally.
The purpose of the facility evolved throughout the project to include an academy, which can be used by the Northampton Town Football Club.
The new community centre provides a modern, fit-for-purpose facility, which brings together all local communities. The flexible spaces can be used for sporting and community activities or functions and events. With two schools and a nursery nearby, it also offers the provision for indoor and outdoor after-school and recreational leisure activities.
