Doncaster Council have commissioned a number of major projects through our National Major Works framework, including the Doncaster campus of the National College for High Speed Rail, a £14 million housing project set to deliver 120 new homes, the Carr Lodge Primary Academy for over 200 pupils and the £6.5 million Kirk Sandall Waste Transfer Station.

By using the framework to deliver these projects, Doncaster Metropolitan Borough Council has ensured investment in local buildings provides maximum benefits for the local community, with Willmott Dixon achieving 90% local spend within 40 miles, as well as providing 60 apprentice weeks and site visits for over 200 local students.

Supporting the local economy is a key priority for the Council, and through the framework Willmott Dixon have engaged with local SMEs in the supply chain through a number of joint events, which have led to the appointment of several local SMEs as sub-contractors on SCAPE projects in Doncaster.

Work on the Carr Lodge Academy, the Kirk Sandall Waste Transfer Centre and HS2 Academy has provided over £6.5 million of contracts for companies based in Doncaster on just these three projects alone.

As we continue to transform services to the people of Doncaster through its built environment, it has been vital to deliver new buildings quickly while also ensuring that the investment is felt right across the local community. On a number of SCAPE projects undertaken for the council, I don’t believe any other option could have delivered so much for so little in such a short timeframe.

Adam Midgley, Head of Construction Services at Doncaster Metropolitan Council

Mark Robinson, SCAPE Chief Executive added, “Doncaster Council has demonstrated what can be achieved by the public sector even in times of austerity. Through our National Major Works framework, the council has put money back into local businesses, invested in local skills and achieved big savings in procurement time. An increasing number of local authorities are looking for comprehensive solutions to their built environment challenges, and we have been able to deliver for the whole lifecycle of key projects”.
