Joining Build UK very much aligns to our vision and values. This new partnership will enable our two organisations to form mutually supportive collaborative activities and programmes. SCAPE remains committed to using the rigour of our performance and framework management processes, combined with the commitments from our delivery partners and their supply chain, to ensure lasting change that is required within the sector.

Mark Robinson, SCAPE Chief Executive

Representing more than 40% of the UK construction sector, Build UK presents a single voice for construction, bringing together Clients, Contractors and Trade Associations to enable effective communication with industry stakeholders.

By working with Build UK, we can add our voice, our opinions and use our expertise and influence to tackle key issues faced by the construction sector including:

Perception of the industry

Inspiring young people to choose a career in construction and benefit from the diverse range of careers available, as well as retaining and motivating the current industry workers. As well as encouraging a shift from the industry being traditionally male-dominated and facilitating a more gender-balanced workforce, which encourages and celebrates women in construction.

Training and skills

Tackling the skills shortage is an ongoing task. Build UK will ensure that the outcome of construction training and qualifications meets the needs of employers and that sufficient employment opportunities as well as apprenticeships are available to maintain a skilled, professional workforce.

Pre-qualification

Working to develop and implement a solution to the repetitive process of pre-qualification that meets the needs of clients and other stakeholders, which is also beneficial to the construction supply chain.

Health and safety

Health and safety onsite is paramount. We will help to improve health and safety standards across the industry, sharing best practice and creating safer places in which to work; managing risks and working towards the elimination of accidents and ill health.

Fair payment

For the construction industry to be sustainable, payment practices must be transparent and fair. A thriving industry will have effective business models that ensure businesses of all sizes can deliver excellent service and projects.

SCAPE’s unique reach into the public sector opens up a new opportunity for Build UK to facilitate change within both the private and public sector. Together, we can all achieve our goal to futureproof the industry.

Suzannah Nichol MBE, Build UK Chief Executive

We’ll be working in collaboration with Build UK and its members to share best practice that will drive a sustainable culture shift within the industry – improving productivity, achieving growth and delivering positive outcomes for the community.

Formed less than two years ago, Build UK has already achieved great success in facilitating change in the industry; forming a stronger collective voice that leverages the influence and expertise of some of the key players in construction. As more like-minded organisations recognise the benefits of collaboration, Build UK continues to move from strength-to-strength, accelerating the pace of change.
