The University of Edinburgh have commissioned the restoration and refurbishment of their category C listed building at Chambers Street, which was formerly a police training college, to provide much-needed flexible space for teaching and learning. This latest addition to the University's estate will ease growing pressure for additional teaching spaces due to increases in student numbers.
Designed specifically for Architecture and Landscape Architecture students, the environment will provide an inspiring, modern facility that enhances their education and supports their creativity, including new teaching rooms and purpose-built studios.
Sitting alongside existing University of Edinburgh facilities on Chambers Street will create a vibrant hub of activity, with the state of the art facilities, including new teaching rooms and studios, helping to attract the next generation of Architects.
Mark Robinson, SCAPE chief executive
The project will be led by delivery partner Robertson, through Major Works Scotland, part of the SCAPE National Construction framework; a dedicated framework for Scotland, designed to meet the growing construction and infrastructure needs across the country.
Robertson has an excellent track-record of delivering projects in the city and will work alongside their extensive local supply chain throughout the project, whilst providing community engagement and training opportunities.
The performance management processes embedded into our frameworks ensure certainty of cost, time and quality for the client, essential to ensure that this refurbishment project is ready to provide a best-in-class learning facility for students, as well as creating community benefits.
Peter Porteous, Business Team Leader - Scotland, SCAPE Procure
Meanwhile, we are also working with the University on the ongoing refurbishment of the Lister Learning and Teaching Centre, a diverse learning environment for medical students, also delivered by Robertson in partnership with Willmott Dixon and due for completion later this year.
