Our Regional Construction framework turns 2 this year! In its 4th iteration, the RCF illustrates the power of collaborative partnerships and the extensive social, economic, and environmental benefits a Gold Standard Framework delivers.

Creating local social value through construction

Since this fifth iteration of the Regional Construction Framework became live two years ago, our partners have jointly generated over £27 million in Social and Local Economic Value (SLEV) for communities throughout the East Midlands and the East of England.

This includes initiatives such as our delivery partners collaborating with a local school to create a 100-year time capsule for the Skegness community, as well as volunteering at local food banks and contributing to 281 apprenticeship weeks.

Fair payment and surety of the local supply chain

Central the SCAPE frameworks are the KPIs that govern performance and facilitate compliance. Clients and delivery partners both set and select KPIs relevant to the local requirements. In addition, SCAPE set a number of KPIs relating to health, safety, the environment, the use of SMEs etc, but one of the most important relates to fair payment.

We’re pleased to say that over the last year, 100% of payments to the supply chain were made on time on the Regional Construction Framework. The great news is that this is not unusual, this statistic is common across the SCAPE frameworks but is always worthy of celebration! In addition:

  • 93% of the target was achieved for SME engagement, meaning that for all projects over 93% of the companies used were in the SME category

And

  • 89% of project spend was spent via local SMEs

Core to SCAPE’s Regional Construction Framework is ensuring the pound stays local and the community feels the benefit of the delivery. 100% fair payment means that everyone is paid on time, meaning SMEs and other organisations can confidently invest, recruit and grow locally thanks to the SCAPE model and our delivery partner’s diligence.

Making a Difference with the Community Legacy Programme

Throughout this year, our Regional Construction framework partners have consistently contributed to the Community Legacy Programme. This initiative promotes collaboration across the group in delivering and supporting causes for the social good.

The Community Legacy Programme is a voluntary group that comes together to use their influence, skills and resources in a collaborative way to deliver additional social value over and above what is delivered and demanded as part of project delivery. The community legacy programme sits outside the standard commitments SCAPE asks of our framework partners, delivering additional value where we can.

Earlier this year, SCAPE and regional partners Lindum, Clegg Construction, G F Tomlinson, Jeakins Weir, and Stepnell Construction initiated a new careers event to highlight opportunities in the construction industry. The event attracted 126 students from 14 different schools, who participated in various construction activities including surveying, bricklaying, and operating plant equipment. Empowering future employees and owners of local SMEs.
